The grand 1874 palace of the Scindia dynasty features Italian-Tuscan architecture, the world's heaviest chandeliers (3.5 tonnes each), a silver toy train that served after-dinner drinks, and a museum in 35 rooms showcasing royal artifacts.

Walk from the fort to the tombs of India's greatest musician Tansen (a Navaratna of Akbar's court) and his Sufi guru Mohammad Ghaus. The site features some of India's finest jali (lattice) stonework. Annual Tansen Music Festival in December.
